Do the Black Berkey® purification elements reduce Dioxane?

Dioxane (also known as 1.4-Dioxane, Diethylene and Dioxide of Diethylene) is a chemical used as solvent in industrial products such as paint and pesticides. It can also be found in the form of contaminant in the state of trace in consumer products such as shampoos, detergents and cosmetics. Drinking water can be contaminated by dioxane via discharges from manufacturing factories or fleeing underground storage tanks. Once the dioxan has mixed with a source of drinking water, it does not decompose easily and tends to stay in the water.

Although New Millennium Concepts, Ltd. has not carried out specific tests for dioxane, we expect the reduction in dioxane to occur for the following reasons:

Dioxane (C 4 H 8 O 2) is made up of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen.
Dioxan reduction has been reported in several studies as being obtained by the adsorption mechanism to attract dioxane on the surface of carbon -based environments.
Black Berkey ® purification elements use active carbon in our exclusive formulation.
Scientific Engineering Response and Analytical Services (SERES) has listed Bromochloromethane (BCM) as a substitute for dioxane. Substitutes are chemical composition compositions similar to interests of interest and enriched in environmental samples before preparation and analysis. They are used to assess the effectiveness of the elimination or reduction of other contaminants that react similarly.

Nevertheless, given that NMCL does not have a specific test for dioxane, we cannot make any specific declaration for the reduction of dioxane. The factors that may have an impact on any reduction would include concentration of dioxane contamination, as well as other competing contaminants in the water.
