Role and scope of each standard

NSF/ANSI 42 — Taste, odor and appearance

Reduction of free chlorine and improvement of taste, odor and turbidity (sensory comfort).

NSF/ANSI 53 — Contaminants with health impacts

Reduction of more than 50 contaminants chosen by the brand: heavy metals, nitrates/nitrites, pesticides/herbicides, solvents, THM/HAA5, asbestos, cysts, etc.

NSF/ANSI 372 — Lead-Free Compliance

Verifies that materials in contact with water contain ≤ 0.25% lead (material safety, non-filtration performance).

NSF P231 — Microbiological Performance

Reduction of ≥ 99.9999% of bacteria (6 log), ≥ 99.95% of parasites (3 log) and ≥ 99.99% of viruses (4 log), according to EPA protocols.
