BERKEY® - Lightening on the elevation of pH: does the pH of the water treated with the Black Berkey® water filters experience an increase?
Undeniably, the passage of water through the Black Berkey ™ filters has the effect of making it more alkaline than it was originally. Indeed, its pH tends to increase. And this transformation turns out to be rather beneficial ... why? Because bacteria and pathogenic viruses tend to proliferate in acidic environments, and they encounter difficulties in surviving in alkaline environments. As pH climbs, alkalinity increases accordingly.
However, it is important to keep in mind that the final pH of purified water can vary depending on other elements, such as the initial pH of water before its passage through the filter.
