The Environmental Working Group (EWG) recently tested 10 jug-style or countertop water filtration systems for their ability to remove 25 individual per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (more commonly known as "PFAS") found in tap water. According to EWG testing, the Travel Berkey® Gravity Water Filtration System removed PFAS down to non-detectable levels, placing the system in the "Best Overall" category.
The Travel Berkey® System was also praised for its large capacity (1.5 gallons) compared to other filters tested, as well as its "exceptionally long filter life" (each pair of genuine elements Black Berkey® can filter up to 6,000 gallons of tap water before replacement is recommended). CBS News Philadelphia produced a report on the EWG testing, which mentions the Travel Berkey® system, which you can watch here. CBS Colorado also mentioned the Travel Berkey® system in a television news segment about EWG testing, which you can watch here.
EWG's water filtration test results were released a week after the United States Geological Survey (USGS) released a study revealing that drinking water from nearly half of taps in the United States contains at least one type of PFAS. PFAS have been used since at least the 1950s and are associated with a wide range of health problems in humans, including certain types of cancers, as well as developmental, metabolic, and immune disorders, among others. PFAS are called "forever chemicals" due to the fact that they take a long time to break down in the environment.
To protect yourself from PFAS in your drinking water, make sure you have a last barrier water filtration system, such as a Berkey® Gravity Water Filtration System equipped with powerful Black Berkey® elements that have been independently tested by accredited laboratories to remove the chemicals perfluorinated at undetectable levels.
