The Travel Berkey® gravity filtration system was presented in a recent report of CBS Colorado news on recent tests of the Environmental Working Group (EWG) to determine which water filters were the most effective to eliminate PFAS of drinking water. During EWG tests, the Travel Berkey® system equipped with powerful Black Berkey® elements eliminated PFAS up to undetectable levels, thus placing the system in the "Best Global" category. The Travel Berkey® system also offers greater capacity (1.5 gallons) and a long lifespan of filters compared to other systems tested by the EWG (each pair of authentic Black Berkey® elements can filter up to 6,000 gallons of tap water before a replacement is recommended, depending on the quality of incoming water). PFAS: an increasing health problem
PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) have been manufactured for over 60 years and can be found in many articles used daily by consumers. PFAS are associated with several health problems in humans, including effects on children's development, an increase in cholesterol levels, an increased risk of certain cancers (such as prostate, kidney and testicle cancers)) , and more. It is estimated that at least 97% of Americans have detectable PFAS levels in their blood, and a study by the USGS in 2023 revealed that almost half of the taps in the United States (45%) contain at least one PFAS type.
